35 year old welder has cataracts
In many people's eyes, cataracts are the exclusive preserve of the elderly. But Xiao Wang, 35, from Jiangxi province, was diagnosed with cataracts. The ophthalmologist said it had a lot to do with his profession.
Xiao Wang has been doing electric welding business with his uncle in Quanzhou in recent years. Some time ago, there was a big project in the store. For more than half a month, Xiao Wang worked for more than 12 hours every day. Due to the frequent need of delicate operation, he sometimes simply took off the protective goggles and worked with the naked eye. The project was finished, but Xiao Wang found that his vision had deteriorated so badly that he could not see clearly. Xiao Wang went to the drugstore to buy some eye drops, but they have not improved at all for more than half a month. Seeing his eyesight getting worse, Xiao Wang was transferred to Xiamen Eye Center for treatment.
Director Chen Wei examined and found that Xiao Wang's eyes were clouded, diagnosed as cataracts. Chen wei explained that electric welding is a kind of short-wavelength ULTRAVIOLET light. Long-term naked eye exposure will affect the cornea and lens, and accelerate the formation of cataract. The biggest function of protective lens is to filter out ultraviolet light, which can effectively reduce the damage of electric welding to the eyes.
Because cataract causes lens opacity which is generally irreversible, currently there is no special drug to cure cataract. Some drugs in the market have no therapeutic effect, and the only treatment method is surgery. Recently, he successfully completed cataract surgery in Xiamen Eye Center cataract specialty. Postoperative visual acuity was 1.0 in both eyes. Xiao Wang was very happy that the fuzzy world was clear again.

High incidence of ultraviolet radiation cataract in Southern Fujian
Studies have shown that cataract rates are significantly higher in people who have lived in sunny areas for more than 30 years, and in people who have had frequent exposure to bright light in their work and life.
Located in coastal areas, Southern Fujian has a subtropical climate with strong ultraviolet radiation throughout the year and a high incidence of cataracts, According to Chen wei. Previously, the Cataract specialist of Xiamen Eye Center had treated many fishermen around 40 years old who had been working under the scorching sun for a long time and suffered from cataracts to varying degrees.
Chen Wei reminds: long work under the sun, strong light people had better wear better quality sunglasses, sunshade hat, reduce the damage of ultraviolet to the eyes; Eat more fruits and vegetables with higher vitamin content, such as apples, oranges, spinach, water spinach and so on. Once the symptoms such as vision loss, glare and overlapping visual objects appear, it is necessary to go to the eye examination in time.
